WELCOME TO THE RACINE CHAPTER OF ROYAL FAMILY KIDS CAMP AND ROYAL FAMILY KIDS MENTORING CLUB WEBSITE!
We are part of a network of camps and clubs specially designed to meet the needs of children traumatized by abuse, neglect and abandonment by providing a safe environment, loving and affirmative contact with safe adults to give them positive memories and life-changing moments. As you will discover later, our Royal Family KIDS Camp has existed in Racine County since 2002. We had our 21st. camp this summer. Each camp is sponsored by a local church who has seen the need to help these traumatized children in our community. The camp is staffed entirely by volunteers who receive 8-12 hours of training each year. The camp has a ratio of 1 counselor to 2 campers to ensure the children receive close attention and nurturing. We work closely with the case managers working in the child protective services in Racine Human Service Department.
We have had very positive feedback from case managers in child protection, caregivers, and the campers themselves about the experiences they have had at camp. Many of the children start talking about going back to camp by Christmas. Two of our former campers who had been adopted turned down a trip to Disney World to be able to return to camp. Many former campers have returned to work on staff or to be a counselor because they wanted to give other traumatized children the chance to experience the safety, love and positive memories they had at camp
WE EXPAND AND GROW Into FOR THE CHILDREN
Since 1985, volunteers, churches, businesses, and agencies have worked together to provide camps and then mentoring clubs for the children abused, neglected and abandoned to help them overcome the challenges they are facing. Our specific camps and mentoring clubs have existed under the umbrella labelled Royal Family KIDS. With the impact of Covid, the vision began to expand as it was realized that there were many other ways we could come alongside local and state Child Protective Services and Foster Care. We recognized the need for advocacy, promoting fostering and adoption, supporting foster parents and birth parents, supporting social workers and case managers and other crucial wraparound services. The result was a change in the name of the umbrella to “For the Children” in November 2020. Royal Family KIDS Camps and Royal Family Mentoring Clubs will operate under that umbrella. We are sharing this because we don’t want people confused by the new name and the new national website: forthechildren.org.
